cebdegaf@sbcglobal.net - 2007-07-09 13:02:22 - Car Audio

i just got a new stereo in my car, its a 96 buick regal, and now some of the stations come in really bad, why does it do this when i went from a crappy stereo to a good one? is there any way to make them come in better?

Best Answer:

--Your vehicle requires an antenna adapter for a new head unit installation. If an adapter was used, it may be defective; try replacing it. --There's probably a junction in the antenna cable in the passenger kick panel area. That's the area under the panel to the right of the passenger's feet. If you can find the antenna connection there, make sure it's secure and not coming loose. --If your vehicle has an in-glass antenna (not a metal whip) then the "power antenna" connection in the radio harness needs to be hooked up to activate the stock antenna amplifier. Some installers overlook this step.

maybe your antenna got knocked around and is not sitting secure in the back of the new HU. Could be weather affecting it as well.

Get a better antenna, or move closer to the station.

Each radio differs in sensitivity, which is how well it pulls in stations. OEM radio are usually quite good in that, and aftermarket units, while having better sound and more features, generally aren't as good at handling weaker signals. If you have a whip antenna, the best length is 31 inches. If you have that nasty GM in-glass antenna..there ain't much you can do.

I personally never ever listened to the Radio while driving, for the same very reason.

Sounds as if the/a antenna may not be hooked up on the new stereo. Did you install it yourself? If so check and see how an antenna hooks up to your new receiver. If not check with the place that installed it.

This is usually caused by your antenna. Maybe it is not hooked up all the way or you might want install a new antenna because the wire could be shorting out.
