39 weeks pregnant with brown discharge?

yvonne43 - 2008-03-04 01:18:27 - Pregnancy

I am 39/4 weeks pregnant. I have been in slow labour since friday and i was told i am 1cm dilated, since then i had brown discharge and on the saturday i lost my mucas plug. Yesterday was the the first day since friday i didnt have brown discharge, but today i have it again, does this mean anything?? i have backache and period pain everyday too. Should i be worried ? last night i could feel her moving about and at the same time i felt her move down below too, like she moved down a bit more!!!!

Best Answer:

i would go to the hospital and see what they say maybe the rest of mucus plug...may be bleeding ....cant really tell because not a doctor you might be dilating without you really noticing....just slight discomfort

not worried - you should have those hospital things in your car - by the sounds of things, you're ready to go... stay on your feet - walk.... and you're set. good luck and congrats :) you lucky thing you (i have another 3 wks + to go)

Baby very soon remains of your mucas plug you should consult a doctor though just incase the baby has gone to the toilet in you can be very dangerous- don't want to scare you just be cautious! Good Luck and congratulations

hi honey id suggest that you talk to your gp asap keep a diary of anything you experience before birth and tell your doctor every detail. it may noe be much to worry about but then again im not a doctor and not in your shoes so id say to go and see your gp and he/she may prescribe you something or even an ultrasound. i dearly hope that you are fine and the baby is fit and healthy and i realy hope that there isnt a thing to worry about. god bless you and good luck

I'd ring your midwife for advice. My plug came away and I had bleeding for a day. My midwife checked me over and also found out I was contracting every 8 mins but painlessly. Was sent home because I wasn't dilating and had no pain. 6hrs later was in full labour and my dd was born 39.5 hours later! You will probaly find you are in slow labour cos it was like period pain for first 24 hr. Bet you're a mummy by the weekend so good luck and congratulation!!

Phone the maternity ward where youwill be having your baby, explain and they will tell you if you should go in or not. Don't hang about. Better safe than sorry.

Wow - you are going to meet your baby really soon how exciting for you. I would say that it is most likely the remenant of your plug but if at any stage you experience a decrease in movement, a sudden big gush of brown "loss" or it looks blackish green seek medical advice pronto. The latter could be meconium from the baby and could be a sign of distress but you wouldnt see that unless the waters have broken. I have had three bubs and with each lost brown stuff with my plug before and after. If you at all concerned keep the pad and seek some attention for sure. GOOD LUCK! :) If this is your first bub it could be an extended labour (mine was too -hard work!). I would take it as a sign things are moving ahead but keep an eye out for other indicators. :)

I'd say you'll be a mommy very, very soon. Every pregnancy is different, some will have hard labor pains, some won't. Contractions are just to help squeeze the baby down further into the birth canal, but if you felt yours drop, I'd say you're more than 1 cm dilated by now. I would pack my hosp. bag, put it in the car and at the very least go get checked for dilation. Usually if you're not having contractions, the dr. won't think it's all that an emergent situation. When I had my son at 37 weeks I started contracting on a Friday but it was nothing really, really painful, more like period cramps. By Sunday morning, they were coming every 7 minutes so we left for the hosp. I was 3 cm dilated and I remember during the exam, the dr said, "the sac is bulging", so she went ahead and burst the sac which then caused full blown labor and my son was born within 2 hours after that. Best of luck to you and I hope you have a speedy delivery.
